Cleaning crews at offices across metro Detroit doing the same are putting in extra work to keep employees safe amid coronavirus concerns. Jeff Kelosky with Stratus Building Solutions says one time cleaning orders have quadrupled in the last few weeks.

"If you have a key card, the key that you have, those don't often get disinfected," he said. "And multiple people are touching those areas as well."

Tips To Disinfecting An Office

The continued spread of the flu and new coronavirus (COVID-19) further demonstrates the need for workspaces to be clean and healthy. Luckily, the act of cleaning and then disinfecting a surface dramatically reduces the chances of infection spreading.

“Businesses need to step up their efforts to make sure their workplaces are disinfected regularly and properly,” says Afshin Cangarlu, CEO of Stratus Building Solutions. “There are specific cleaning tools and methods and a right and wrong way to tackle disinfection that could make or break the health of employees.”

Tips to avoid contaminating or catching ailments from co-workers

Whether it’s the new coronavirus, colds or the flu, ailments can spread quickly through places where many people share space: including your work.

“In offices, we have a lot of trouble spots; it’s going to be all touch points,” said Loye Belew, an operations manager for Stratus Building Solutions, which operates in Maryland.

In addition, Belew said every surface — from thermostats, to backs of chairs and boardroom tables — can harbor potentially harmful bacteria and viruses.
